Can’t believe U.S. would unleash terror on its own citizens? They already tried

By Craig McKee

They wanted to murder civilians in major American cities, blow up a plane painted to look like a civilian airliner, sink a military ship, and even fake an attack on their own naval base.

The year was 1962. The creators of the plan were the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States of America. The goal was to get the public on board for an invasion of Cuba.

And it’s all a matter of public record. It’s not a conspiracy theory, it’s a fact.

The Joint Chiefs also discussed the possibility that disaster might strike Mercury astronaut John Glenn in his bid to become the first American to orbit the earth. If Glenn died in an accident, they were prepared to fake evidence that the rocket had been sabotaged by Fidel Castro using some kind of radio interference.

Unfortunately for them, the flight went off without a hitch and Glenn lived.

One of the main reasons people resist believing 9/11 was an inside job is that they just can’t conceive of the government doing such a terrible thing; it’s too diabolical. We can imagine the faceless “evil-doers” having such little regard for human life, but Americans?

Anyone who feels this way has probably not heard of Operation Northwoods. This was the code name of a secret plan proposed by the Joint Chiefs in March 1962 to launch a campaign of terror against American citizens in order to trick them into supporting a war with Cuba. The goal was to oust Castro just three years after he took power in a revolution.

Documents released following an access to information request show that Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Lyman Lemnitzer proposed just such a plan. In fact, all the members of the Joint Chiefs signed on. President John F. Kennedy rejected the proposal, further angering the military leadership, which still blamed him for the failure of the Bay of Pigs invasion the year before.

In “Northwoods,” it was proposed that the U.S. launch a phoney “Communist Cuban terror campaign” in Miami, other Florida cities, and even Washington D.C. A fake terror campaign with REAL victims. They wanted to kill American citizens. They also proposed that a military ship be blown up in Guantanomo Bay, and that a boat full of Cuban refugees be sunk. All blame to Cuba.

They would also launch an attack on their own naval base at Guantanamo Bay using Cubans friendly to

Lyman Lemnitzer: blame massive terror campaign on Cuba.

the U.S. The refugees they were willing to drown would also, presumably, have been friendly to that cause. Too bad for them.

The plan even advocated having a U.S. military plane painted to look like a passenger airliner. The idea was that the plane would be shot down, with Castro being blamed for killing all the innocent passengers on board. But there wouldn’t be any real passengers on board. THEY WOULD FAKE THE WHOLE THING. Sound familiar? Fake crash, fake wreckage. The real plane (all passengers with aliases) would fly at low altitude to the nearest U.S. Air Force Base.

The details of the operation were chronicled by investigative journalist James Bamford in his 2002 book Body of Secrets. Bamford reveals the details of the campaign of terror and disinformation, as well as the Joint Chiefs intention to impose “prolonged military control” over Cuba after Castro was overthrown.

Bamford reported that while the John Glenn part of the plan didn’t make into the final proposal, it was seriously discussed by the Joint Chiefs.

Imagine if all of this had gone ahead, and that America and the world had been fooled. Then imagine that a group of citizens challenged the official story, claiming that the government had cooked up the whole thing. Who would have believed them? People would have said, “The government would never do that. It’s just too diabolical. They’d never kill their own people to justify a war. Only the evil-doers would do something so terrible.”

That’s what people would have said. But they’d have been wrong.

What would you have said?

  1. It’s amazing actually. People always assume other ‘foreign’ governments could be corrupt, but not their own. While I would pick Canada, the U.S. or the U.K. to live over most places in the world – it is wrong to think that deception and deceit doesn’t happen in our own back yard.

    1. Yes, I agree. I’ve come to believe that the forces of deceit and corruption in various countries have more in common with each other than with others in their own country. Contrary to how I used to see things, the forces that would enslave us transcend national boundaries. That means we have to work that much harder to expose what they’re up to. Thanks for writing.

  2. what you put yur attention on expands!!!
what yur against weakens you….what yur for strenghten”s you…

I bet you have a problem with yur ego….just like Bush…Be Powerless !

    1. I agree that what you devote your attention and your energy to is critical to how you feel about yourself and how you interact with the universe. HOWEVER – you miss the point with the rest of your comment. I’m AGAINST powerful forces manipulating the rest of us for their own ends. But I’m FOR people being treated with decency, not being lied to, not being used as pawns in a larger game of power grabbing. I’m also FOR people helping each other, learning from each other and working TOGETHER to make the world a better place – a place where innocent people aren’t murdered so others can profit.
Being powerless may work on a spiritual level, but when it comes to standing up for what’s right, we have power when we work together with selfless motives.
My ego’s fine. And my mind is open. How about you?

    2. Attitude,

I bet you have a problem expressing yourself clearly.

So what I gather from your post is, “don’t pay any attention to that man behind the curtain” …”just listen to the voice of the all knowing Oz”…
      . . . . . . .
Anyway Craig, thanks for leading me to this article. I hadn’t seen it. This is some time before I began posting on T&S.

I notice your following of commentators has increased a great deal from these days.

Remarkable document the Northwoods plan. A glimpse into the heart of Mordor.
